|About the Book|
A lovely childrens fiction book by Michael Morpurgo. The book is about a donkey called Jo-Jo who lives in Venice and works as a Melon donkey. As he walks the streets of Venice everyone ridicules him even his own master. His master decides to sell melons in St Marks Square and Jo-Jo is befriended by the princess of Venice. One nisht as he plans to run away with the princess this sad little donkey finds himself in a situation that will change his life forever. This book is a very good moral and uplifting story. Although it lacks humour it makes up for this with the wonderful descriptions of Venice, characters and the atmosphere- you can really imagine what it is like to be there with Jo-Jo.Within the book there are very nice coloured pictures to accompany the text. The language within the book is catered for children of a good reading level, suggesting it is suited to KS2. Many activities can be created using this book such as researching Venice and discussing the morals within the story.I enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.
